The legal system in India offers Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms which are often faster and cheaper alternatives to Court litigation. 
Arbitration is an adversarial form dispute resolution where instead of a judge in a Court, a mutually appointed Arbitrator will decide the dispute after hearing both parties. 
Mediation is a form of settlement which is arrived at after negotiations between parties. 
Both these forms of ADR result in binding decisions, i.e. where parties have to comply with the result, just like a Court’s judgment.
